Hello NAfME Friends!

Tommorow is the start to our exciting, two-day long Guest Artist Series! Please consider coming to one or more events - they will be fun and will give you recital attendance or ed hours, which is a win-win situation! Kiran Vedula is an artist and musican that we have the chance to learn so much from over these next two days. We'll be learning things that will stick with you for a lifetime and may even alter your teaching for years to come! Read below to hear more about the classes we have in the next two days.

Thursday - Events, Locations, and More!

Thursday contains the following classes:

Working with a Community Based Artist - April 3rd @9am in CA1005
Career Skills for Musicians - April 3rd @11am in CA0001
Creativity and Mindfulness in a Modern World - April 3rd @12pm in CA0006

These classes have exciting titles, but even better content! Working with Community Based Artists will be in CA1005 at 9am, and will be about how to engage with artists in your community. This is helpful for our education students to learn how to engage with the performers around them, and helpful for our performers to learn how to engage with their communities and other artists.

Next is Career Skills for Musicians at 11am in CA0001, which is a class offered by Dr. Holmes that you can sit in on. Kiran will be talking about his experience as a musician and artist, his journey to get there, and advice that he has for those in attendance.

Finally, we have Creativity and Mindfulness in a Modern World at noon in CA0006. This one is really unique in that it offers something you wouldn't get out of a class offered here at Whitewater - a look into combining the arts with mindfulness. It will be eye-opening, and hopefully helpful to everyone.

Friday- Events, Locations, Concert, and World Drumming!

Friday contains the following classes:

Jack of All Trades: How to “Do it all” in the Arts - April 4th @11am in CA0030
Introduction to Call and Response Singing - April 4th @12pm in Light Recital Hall
Good News Concert - April; 4th @3pm in Light Recital Hall

The first class of the day is Jack of All Trades at 11am in CA0030. I'm really excited for this one in particular, and hopefully our Arts and Communications department friends will join us as well. Learning different ways to do different things is always important.

After this is Dr. Wood's studio class, which will be able to have an Introduction to Call and Response Singing at noon in Light Recital Hall. Kiran specializes in call and response, so we are truly lucky to have him. Call and Response is a way to engage with your students on a deeper, more internal level.

The next part is actually not listed on our posters because it is closed to the public, but open to CNAfME. We will be taking Kiran to World Drumming at Fairhaven with us starting at 1pm!  For this, we will be joining in Christine Hayes' World Drumming class with the senior citizens. This is something that NAfME has already been doing, but it will be so different with Kiran there leading.

Then, the final part of our day is Kiran's Concert! This will start at 3pm in Light Recital Hall. His concert focuses on his recently-released album called Good News. The music is a must-listen, and we are extactic to have him perform.

As mentioned above, every single event will get you Recital Attendance or an Ed Hour, depending on which you prefer. Please come support this wonderful guest and learn all that you can from him. Thank you all, and I look forward to seeing you in the next two days!
