 Meeting Minutes 

WMEA Conference

  • Wisconsin Music Education Association 

    • THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY!! 

      • Thursday 7:15 am to 3 pm 

      • Friday 7:15 am to 2 pm 

  • Registration 

    • If you were unable to attend our registration event on Friday, email one of the E-Board members ASAP to get the discount code. 

    • On site registration is more expensive! 

      • $42 for NAfME Members 

      • $84 for non NAfME Members 

  • Excuse Form 

    • If you didn’t fill out google sheet when leaving the meeting this week, please send an E-Board member to get your name on the form.

    •  In a few days, you will receive a form to send to your professors to get out of classes

  • Check in is at Monona Terrace in Madison, WI

  • Parking 

    • You can park by Monona Terrace, but you probably want to park by Alliant Energy Center

    • There will be a shuttle from Alliant Energy Center 

      • Runs every thirty minutes

  • Carpooling 

    • If you need a ride, please let us know ASAP!

  • Conference App 







 

  • WMEA Scholarship 

    • We offer scholarships to pay you back for WMEA’s cost! 

    • The scholarship is available to 2-3 people to cover your WMEA Registration costs 

    • We will send this scholarship application out AFTER conference, and it will be due November 4th

    • You will write about things you learned at conference and about your experience as a whole

    • You should be taking notes at all the sessions you attend! We will upload notes into a shared place so everyone has access to the information from all sessions! 

  • Business Casual Guidelines

Stage Managing

  • Reminders about Stage Managing

    • You MUST stage manage a minimum of one time this year 

      • Complete it now and get it out of the way! 

    • Dress business casual (preferably no jeans) 

      • When in doubt, wear your concert black! 

    • If you can no longer stage manage, find your own replacement

    • You receive Ed Hours for stage managing! 

    • Contact McKenna with any questions 

    • We are keeping track of stage managing on Connect2

  • Look at this spreadsheet to see dates to stage manage. If you can do it, email McKenna with the date you want to manage and she will add you! 

 

Sounds N’ Visions 

  • Congratulations to new Committee Members Ian Curless and Maddie Gums!!

  • What is SNV? 

    • Music day camp for K-5 students, sponsored and put on entirely by UW-W NAfME

    • Opportunity for NAfME members to teach lessons, work with kids, and get ED Hours

    • Groups rotate between 4 classes- 

      • 3 lessons + Instrumental Petting Zoo

  • What are the dates? 

    • Sunday, February 9th @ Rock County 

      • *set up at 8 am, clean up after recital at 1:30

    • Saturday, February 15th @ UW-W Center of the Arts 

      • *set up on Friday, Feb 14th in the evening

    • *TBD: "Dress Rehearsal" for teachers to run activities for other volunteers and for everyone to earn the group song

    • Campers attend from 10 am- 2 pm each day

  • New theme every year! We picked the theme today, and it is…

    • ✨ Going to the Zoo ✨

  • Volunteers

    • Guide-  lead students between activities, build positive group environment (4 groups, need 8 guides)

    • Teacher- co-create lesson plans, co-teach activities to students as they rotate throughout the day, create positive classroom environment (3 classrooms, need 6 teachers, plus Instrumental Petting Zoo)

      • *taking MUSED Ed. Ped or Methods, MUST have a background check

    • Room Assistants- assist classroom, model and encourage participation (1 per room)

    • Registration- get families check in, watch belongings throughout the day, help with first aid, direct families at the end of the day (need 2 volunteers)

    • Photographer- taking pictures throughout the day, create a slideshow for parents (need 1-2 photographers)

    • Floaters- help as needed, assist with bathroom breaks etc.

    • Set Up/Take Down- self explanatory! Everyone should help with this!

Other Announcements:

  • Fairhaven World Drumming 

    • World Drumming Masterclass 

      • Friday, November 8 at 10 am in 1005 

    • Will be sending out a form to find out when everyone is most available to go to Fairhaven to teach and participate in these classes 

      • Please complete by November 1st! 

    • Groups will be created (can be chosen by you all!) and there will be at least one driver in each group that will drive the entire group over to Fairhaven 

  • Visiting Artist in Spring  

    • Spring 2025, Kiran Vedula will be visiting 

    • Scheduled Dates: April 3 and 4 (Thursday and Friday)
